Basic Eye Health and Visual Exam
Dr. Richardson’s basic eye exam is very thorough and includes screening for glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, and other health concerns.
He will also determine your vision prescription for glasses. Dr. Richardson will explain the exam as he works so you’ll understand what each procedure is for.
The Basic Visual Exam checks the health of your eyes on the inside and out. When Dr. Richardson looks inside your eyes, he is also checking your blood vessels, retina, and optic nerve. He probably will not need to dilate your eyes unless you have diabetes, or some other conditions.
During the refraction, you will help the doctor by choosing between different lenses, which he will use to calculate your eyeglass prescription.. He will also measure your depth perception, focusing ability, and any need for additional power when reading.
Contact Lens Evaluation
If you are interested in wearing contact lenses, he will do a contact lenses evaluation to find out which contacts will give you the best comfort and fit. Dr. Richardson is a contact lens expert, and works with you to get the very best lenses for your unique eyes.
For Eye Infections or Minor Injury

Computer Vision Syndrome
If you notice eyestrain, blurry vision, neck and shoulder pain, or headaches after using electronic screens, you may have Computer Vision Syndrome. Computer glasses may help. These glasses are made to help you focus up closer. You can add an anti-reflective coating to protect your eyes from harmful blue light. Dr. Richardson can also give you hints on setting the angle of your computer and chair armrests to give you additional relief.
Children’s Eye Exams
Children are some of our favorite patients. We can see patients from the age of 3 months and up. Dr. Richardson is gentle and patient with our little patients. He wants the exam to be fun. Many children have come in for their exam a little shy, but have left with a big smile.
